INTERNATIONAL CALL TO PLANT A TREE

INTERNATIONAL CALL TO PLANT A TREE

If you already have a son, or you wrote something
now will play you to plant a tree.
It plants a tree dear brother,
make to the Planet the best gift.
Make it if you live in the city or in the field,
plant it in the prairie or on the edge of a lake.
Make it I mate, and after planting it
take care of it, as it were a boy in your lap.
To the one that tells you that that work is vain
don't pay him attention, don't pay him attention.

Maybe to dig the well is weighed
but believe me that you will be rewarded.
Water it with faith that will grow very high,
protect it and takes care that nobody harms him,
make it with passion and with much care,
it uses good seeds or a healthy bud.

Take the shovel, make the well, and plant it!
helps to embellish the desolated land.
Make him a stonemason, surrounding it of grass,
and so that right grows you put him a stick.
Perhaps late in growing some years,
being while home of many birds
that a new day of life they will have announced you.

takes today the decision, and make it!
You will have the pleasure to see that that planted
it is the work of your own hands,
and you will go seeing achievements and many results.

You will help to filter the polluted air,
and of the global heating that causes damage
you will help to attenuate the five pesetas impact.
will give you fresh shade in the summer
and you will rest to rest of the work
when you doze under their reclined glass.
And every autumn your garden will be gilded
and in winter their firewood will have warmed.

In spring their beauty will cover the grassland.
Perhaps their fruits will have fed
or some of their flowers will have cut
to adorn the tomb of some dear being.
Their wood will be your partner to your side
when you are in the buried tomb.

You look at it fixed, as a lover
With the pleasure with the one that you look at a square
observes like it grows, span to span
and marvel of what you have achieved.
Soon your neighbors will have been contagious,
and all will want to have their own tree.

If 5000 millions of human
we would plant each one a tree
the air of the Planet would not warm so much.
We would help to thousands of having flooded
so that their city is not continued flooding.
The trees have lived before you,
and their wisdom comes from the past,
and they will continue here when you have left.

It excuses that this poem is half long,
but listen to me well: I will tell you something:
My h preaches ecological it will be a winged verse
that will give the turn to the world screaming him,
so that they stop to proliferate forests throwing,
that the complex ecosystems don't suffer so much,
and in the future of your children the cry doesn't reign.

Wanted to see this poem transformed into a song
an international call to plant a tree.

the readers copy it and they re-publish it
in all the places in those that it is possible.
would want them to make their version translated in
all the languages of the Planet, so that
this call can give this way turn to the world,
and people realize the importance
of planting a tree, and to avoid that the forests
be continued throwing in indiscriminate form.

Dear Ruben,

Thank you very much for your poem. We might post it on our website.

It is my pleasure to inform you that the United Nations Environment Programme has launched its first global tree planting project on 8 November 2006 in Nairobi during the 12th Conference of the Parties of the Framework Convention on Climate Change.

Placed under the patronage of 2004 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Professor Wangari Maathai and His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, the campaign is raising awareness of the inter-dependence between humankind and the planet’s ecosystems, as well as the linkages between tree planting and climate change mitigation, the restoration of biodiversity, air and soil quality and food security.

Under the Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign, governments, private sector companies, United Nations agencies, civil society organizations, farmers, local authorities and the public at large are encouraged to enter tree-planting pledges on the dedicated web-site www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign, with the objective of planting and caring for a total of one billion trees world-wide in the course of the year 2007.

The success has been phenomenal. Today, the website records over a billion tree planting pledges from around the world and from all spheres of society, from the grassroots level to the highest positions in decision-making.

To define the pace of development, which is both equitable and sustainable, one has to take into account the increased vulnerability of ecosystems to the phenomenon of climate change. The Fourth Assessment Report of Working Group II of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change provides specific information on the nature of future impacts. Climate change is projected to impinge on sustainable development in most developing countries as it compounds the pressures on natural resources and the environment associated with rapid urbanization and economic development. Glacier melt will be followed by decreased river flows, and freshwater availability is projected to decrease. By the 2050s, billions of people could be adversely affected. Endemic morbidity and mortality are expected to rise due to increases in coastal water temperatures.

Therefore, in the face of recent alarming data, the Billion Tree Campaign offers hope and a simple solution for climate change mitigation, while enriching biodiversity.

I would like to invite you and your friends to join the campaign.

Yours in the service of the Earth.
